MATERNAL MENTAL HEALTH

Maternal mental health care is designed to support women during pregnancy and the postpartum period who may be experiencing depression, anxiety, mood changes, overwhelm, sleep disruption, or difficulty adjusting to the emotional demands of motherhood. Perinatal mental health conditions can occur during pregnancy and after childbirth, and they are treatable with appropriate care.

At Hawkins Psychiatry, our goal is to provide compassionate, individualized support for women navigating mental health concerns during this season of life. Treatment may include psychiatric evaluation, medication management when appropriate, and a thoughtful care plan tailored to each patient’s symptoms, history, and stage of pregnancy or postpartum recovery. Clinical guidance from ACOG supports access to treatment for perinatal mental health conditions and recommends individualized assessment and management when clinically indicated.

We understand that maternal mental health concerns can affect not only emotional well-being, but also daily functioning, relationships, and confidence during pregnancy and early motherhood. Our approach is centered on helping patients feel heard, supported, and equipped with a plan for care that is both practical and clinically appropriate. Perinatal depression can involve significant sadness, anxiety, fatigue, and difficulty managing daily tasks, including caring for oneself or others.
